Conflict between India and China on the Border

Yomiuri Shimbun, MORIFUJI: Regarding the military clash at the border between India and China, it has been reported that there were many fatalities. Can you please tell us the Japanese Government’s understanding of the situation and its position?

Mr. OHTAKA Masato, Press Secretary: Regarding China and India, the Chinese and Indian forces have been in confrontation near the border for over one month since early May. It has been reported that there were casualties due to the clash on June 15. The Government of Japan’s position is that it is closely monitoring the situation, as it may have an impact on regional stability. The Government of Japan hopes that this situation will be resolved peacefully through dialogue between the concerned parties.
