US Presidential Election
Geshi, Asahi Shimbun: Mr. Donald Trump is currently giving a victory speech after winning the US presidential election. What are your thoughts on this outcome? Please also explain your views on the prospects for the Japan-US Alliance, as well as the potential impact on Japan’s diplomacy in East Asia and with Russia.
Mr. Yasuhisa Kawamura, Foreign Press Secretary: I am aware that the media is reporting the victory speech and other developments in the United States. We are currently confirming the situation. We have been closely following the results because of the significant impact of this election on global affairs and Japan-US relations. I would like to wait for the final election results and refrain from offering comments or outlooks at this point in time.
In any case, regardless of who becomes the next US president, there will be no change in Japan’s stance, namely that the Japan-US Alliance is the cornerstone of Japan’s diplomacy, and that we will continue to work closely with the United States for peace and prosprity in the Asia Pacific and the world.
