Visit by the President of the United States to Hiroshima

Fukai, TBS: Mr. Barack H. Obama, President of the United States, will be visiting Hiroshima soon. How are things going with coordination of events, scheduling, and other aspects at this point?

Mr. Yasuhisa Kawamura, Foreign Press Secretary: Japan must sufficiently coordinate with the U.S. side in relation to the visit by President Obama to Hiroshima. I know that the U.S. advance team will be arriving, and Japan intends to work together on coordination with the U.S. side, including with the advance team. Nothing has been decided yet on President Obama’s detailed schedule in Hiroshima. We intend to earnestly advance coordination efforts.

Fukai, TBS: President Obama’s Prague speech attracted significant attention. Does the Japanese Government have any hopes this time of President Obama giving some type of speech or sending a message to the people of Japan or the world?

Foreign Press Secretary Kawamura: There have been a variety of media reports mainly in the United States, but also in countries worldwide. Regarding the specific schedule of events and contents, we intend to finalize them through coordination with the U.S. side, so nothing specific has been decided at this point.
