Election of Dr. Robert Floyd, as the next Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (Statement by Press Secretary YOSHIDA Tomoyuki)

Japan welcomes the election of Dr. Robert Floyd, Director General of Australian Safeguards and Non-proliferation Office, as the next Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) at the resumed 55th session of the Commission held on May 20.

Japan attaches great importance to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) as a realistic and concrete framework to support the Treaty of the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) regime and to realize a peaceful and secure world free of nuclear weapons. Japan intends to proactively cooperate with the next Executive Secretary in such measures as the facilitation of the entry-into-force of the CTBT and the development of verification measures, in particular, the International Monitoring System and the On-Site Inspection.
