The Situation in Libya (Statement by Press Secretary YOSHIDA Tomoyuki)

  1. Japan welcomes the selection of a unified interim executive authority at the UN-led Libyan Political Dialogue Forum on February 5. Japan strongly hopes the executive authority will make its utmost efforts to achieve stability in Libya, including through the provision of economic and social services, and make necessary preparations for the presidential and parliamentary elections, which are scheduled to take place on December 24, 2021, in a smooth manner.

  2. Japan highly commends the efforts by the Libyan stakeholders to reach the agreement, as well as the mediation efforts by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya. Japan will continue to cooperate with the international community with a view to realizing stability of Libya.
