US announcement on reversing its withdrawal from the WHO (Statement by Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu)

  1. Japan welcomes President Biden’s announcement of the reversal of the United States’ withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO).
  2. It is of critical importance that the WHO plays a key role in solving global health issues, including the response to COVID-19. Japan hopes that the United States, as the biggest financial contributor to the WHO, will continue to play a leading role in the global health field.
  3. Japan will continue to collaborate with the United States to support the ongoing review and reform process of the WHO and to proactively tackle global health issues including the response to COVID-19.
