US Announcement of its return to the Paris Agreement (Statement by Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu)

- Japan welcomes President Biden's announcement of rejoining of the United States to the Paris Agreement.
- Japan is aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2050, that is, to realize a carbon-neutral society, and this policy goes in line with that of the United States.
- Climate change is an important challenge and the international community must show concerted efforts in tackling the issue. In cooperation with the United States, including in the field of advanced technology, Japan will continue to lead the international community in order to realize a decarbonized society that the Paris Agreement aims for.
