Message from Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoriko Kawaguchi to Secretary of State Colin L. Powell of the United States of America concerning the Space Shuttle Columbia Accident

Dear Mr. Secretary:

The news that the astronauts who undertook this important mission for the progress of mankind gave their precious lives in the accident of the Space Shuttle Columbia brings me great sadness.

I pray for the repose of the astronauts and express my deepest condolences to the Government and the whole nation of the United States of America. I hope that you will convey my heartfelt condolences to all of the families of the astronauts who have unfortunately met with this accident.
