Population and AIDS Problems are the Common Issues of All Humanity

(1) The Population Explosion of the World

The world population which was about 2.5 billion in 1950 has increased to 5.75 billion in the middle of 1995. According to the UN projections, the world population is estimated to reach 7.1-7.8 billion in 2015 and exceed 10 billion in the year 2050. The major part of population increase will be taken place in developing countries which cover about 80% of the world population, and is projected to reach 85% in 2025. The population issue induces the problems of food shortage, unemployment, urban slums, deterioration of environment, etc.. and is the biggest factor that precludes economic and social development.

The number of HIV cases as of the middle of 1995 is estimated to have reached 14-15 million, and the cumulative number of the cases is projected to reach 30-40 million by the year 2000, of which 90% will be generated in developing countries.
