Objectives of the Symposium:
The upcoming symposium on February 24, 2007, "Towards Arc of Freedom and Prosperity: New Developments in Japan's Foreign Policy for the Promotion of Human Rights and Democracy," aims to discuss with academics and professionals how Japan's foreign policy should strive to form the "Arc of Freedom and Prosperity," as well as how Japan's foreign policy could contribute to further protecting and promoting human rights and democracy in the international society.
This symposium is based on Foreign Minister Taro Aso's speech made in November 30, 2006, "Arc of Freedom and Prosperity: Japan's Expanding Diplomatic Horizons," and also the recent trend in the United Nations of "mainstreaming" human rights.
