Seminar on Achieving the MDGs: Follow-Up of G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit and TICAD IV

- Prior to the High Level Conference on MDGs this September, the seminar will be held on Friday 29 August to present ideas on how Japan and UNDP contribute to and what needs to be done to achieve the MDGs in Africa. Achieving the MDGs in Africa was one of the important topics discussed at the G8 Toyako Summit and The Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development in Yokohama (TICAD IV), and the seminar will be part of the follow-up activities to those conferences.
- Ms. Misako Konno, UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, will be invited to report the outcome of her recent visit to Tanzania and present her perspective on achieving the MDGs in Africa. Following Ms. Konno's presentation, Mr. Shinsuke Sugiyama, Director-General for Global Issues of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will share the views and efforts of the Government of Japan towards the achievement of the MDGs. Then the floor will be opened to the public to exchange opinions focusing on Africa where the progress towards the MDGs are lagging behind.
