Endoscope Course (Third-Country Training Course) In Cote d'Ivoire
A television endoscope supplied through Japan's grant assitance to the hospital affiliated with University of Treichville in Cote d'Ivoire.
In cases where Japan has transferred technology to developing
countries, it is essential that achievements in these technology
transfers be sustained for as long as possible and be
disseminated as widely as possible. From this point of view,
Japan conducts so-called third-country training, which is
provided in countries to which it has already extended technical
cooperation. Trainees are invited from neighboring countries and,
when necessary, specialists are sent from Japan.
In FY 1994, Japan conducted such training in 20 countries with a
total of 86 courses. The Endoscope Course in Cote d'Ivoire is a
typical example. This training course has been held every year
since 1984 at the hospital affiliated with the University of
Treichville for trainees from French-speaking countries in West
Africa. Instruction and guidance are given by a Japanese
gastroenterologist from Jichi Medical College, which is
cooperating in this program.
Japan supplied endoscopes and related equipment free of charge to
the university hospital and received its trainees. The hospital
now has well-trained specialists in this area, and all
instructors in the third-country training course, except for
Japanese specialists, are doctors working there.
