Meeting between Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko and Ms. Ghada Fathi Waly, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)

On September 19, commencing at 10:45 am, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during her visit to New York for attending the United Nations General Assembly, held a meeting with Ms. Ghada Fathi Waly, Executive Director of the United Nationds Office on Drugs and Crime for approximately 15 minitues. The overview of the meeiting is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Kamikawa expressed her gratitude to meet Executive Director Waly again following the G7 Justice Ministers' Meeting, and stated that she, as the Foreign Minister of Japan, will seek to further deepen coordination with Executive Director Waly.
- Minister Kamikawa referred to the growing importance of the role of UNODC, whose mandate is to promote the rule of law, and Japan continues to work together with UNODC to provide support through investment for future generations in emerging and developing countries.
- In response, Executive Director Waly congratulated Minister Kamikawa on her new position and expressed that UNODC would further strengthen the strategic partnership with a key donor state, Japan.
