- From Afghanistan to the Future of the World -

The symposium schedule

Given the global situation in the wake of the terrorist attacks in the United States and the increasingly diversified threats brought about by globalization that should be dealt with from the perspective of human security, an International Symposium will be held with the schedule outlined below, to study how the international community can contribute from the viewpoint of human security. There are three themes for discussion at the symposium:

  1. Afghanistan and the threats to human security
  2. Fundamental causes of human insecurity
  3. What should the international community do to promote human security?

The meeting will benefit from the leadership of co-chairs and members of the Commission on Human Security Sadako Ogata and Professor Amartya Sen, in addition to the valuable guidance of a number of experts and intellectuals, each a leader in their respective field, including United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan Lakhdar Brahimi.
