Asian Water Quality Network "AQUA-NET"
1. Background
In Asia, as the rapid population concentration caused by economic growth is going on, the living environments are getting worse in major cities, owing to the gap between the amount of domestic waste water and materials and the capacity of processing facilities. Especially in the monsoon area, people are flowing in major cities on the river basin. As a result, the water qualities of these rivers are getting worse by polluted water and domestic waste.
2. Purpose
To establish an Asian Water Quality Network "AQUA-NET" as a regional database, aiming at collecting and publishing annual water related data in the major river basins where the water pollution is environmentally remarkable, including those of water quality, and the diffusion of sewers in large cities, in order to utilize those data as a benchmark is promoting construction of sewerage systems or waste processing facilities.
3. Activities
a) Collect the data periodically or individually by developing countries, and register them to a database through the network. This database will be made public.
b) Provide data on water quantity and quality which are obtained through feasibility study on sewerage system project and other relevant assistance projects / programme.
4. Partners
Asian developing countries
Major Donors such as ADB, USAID, etc.
