Initiative for Human and Organizational Capacity Development in the Environmental Sector

1.Definition

This initiative will build and expand a network to share experiences and technology which were obtained by each country as well as the Environmental Conservation Center Initiative. It will contribute to human and organizational capacity building of partner countries and promote regional cooperation.

2. Background

It is vital to tackle wide range activities for environmental issues. JICA has put emphasis on the capacity building in the environmental sector, especially in the field of human and organizational capacity development, and assistance to policy making. Environmental Conservation Center Initiative is unique that it is based on the holistic "Center Approach" to promote capacity building. JICA has implemented the Environmental Protection Center Project in 6 countries. Experience obtained from these projects can be shared and contribute to the capacity building in this sector.

3. Details

(1) Host a workshop with partner countries to share information and introduce good practices for improving monitoring techniques, enhancing human and organizational development, and supporting environmental policy making.

(2) Expand a network for sharing information and technology, and provide opportunities to promote South-South cooperation.

(3) Dispatch joint missions with partner countries to promote partner countries' ownership and strengthen their capacity to analyze need and formulate projects.
