Human Resource Development on Trade
(Promotion of WTO-related Technical Assistance and Capacity Building)
1.Definition
To contribute to success of the new round by deepening knowledge and understanding of developing countries (especially countries in Africa) related to the new issues, such as investment, competition, trade facilitation, government procurement and transparency, which are supposed to be one of the focuses at the new round.
2. Background
At the WTO Ministerial Conference held in Doha last November, the strong political commitment was expressed towards further enhancement of multilateral trading system. At the same time, the importance of trade-related capacity building for developing countries, especially " capacity building related to WTO" in connection with the implementation of WTO agreement and the new issues, was confirmed for a successful new round. Against this backdrop, active efforts are expected from each country and international organizations.
3. Details
(1) Seminar on new issues in Geneva held by JICA and WTO jointly
Hold a JICA/WTO co-sponsored seminar on new issues in Geneva, in which government officials in charge of trade policy in developing countries including countries in Africa are invited
(2) Investment seminar in Egypt
Hold a seminar aiming at clarifying challenges and problems common to African countries on multilateral investment rules, targeting those in charge of trade and investment policy in neighboring African countries
