Human Resource Development on Infectious Diseases Control

1.Definition

Through promoting South-South cooperation, to promote the development of human resources on infectious diseases in developing countries by utilizing the result of Japan's technical cooperation projects in developing countries such as Thailand and Kenya, and promoting transfer of technology from those to workers for medical treatment in neighboring developing countries.

2. Background

The infectious diseases are not just a problem of health, but a serious social menace in developing countries. Especially, HIV/AIDS has been threatening the existence of nations. In tackling infectious diseases, it is necessary to ensure adequate access to medicine and health services in any stage of prevention, treatment and care, but above all, there is an overwhelming need in workers for medical treatment for providing effective medical service in developing countries.

3. Details

(1) Third Country Training Program at ACIPAC in Thailand (parasitic diseases)

Implement an international training courses on management of health program, measures against parasites, PHC, enlightenment, education, and so on at Asian Center for International Parasite Control (ACIPAC) (Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Thailand), with the aim of implementing parasite control including health education at a regional level.

(2) Third Country Training Programs at KEMRI in Kenya (parasitic diseases and HIV/AIDS)

  1. Implementation of Third Country Training Program on parasite control.
  2. Implementation of Third Country Training Program on measures against HIV/AIDS ( holding on seminar on blood screening)
