United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20)
Closing Remark by Mr. Hiroyuki Nagahama,
Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary
June 21, 2012
(Japanese)
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
On behalf of the Government of Japan, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the distinguished guests and all of you for participating in this official side event.
The various experiences of the presenters and panelists have made today’s discussion very fruitful. In particular, we have examined the possibility of cooperation between local governments. I expect that international organizations and local governments will be encouraged by today’s discussion to further develop their networks and efforts at collaboration.
Next year, the Government of Japan will host an international conference on future cities. We will invite experts in building cities from developing countries to attend. Through these activities, the Government of Japan intends to share our “FutureCity” Initiative, and contribute to addressing world challenges such as environmental protection and super aging. The Government of Japan will also continue to promote cooperation and knowledge sharing among local governments.
It is our great pleasure if this official side event has provided an opportunity to enhance further discussions on sustainable future cities and to realize “Future Cities We Want”.
Thank you.
