The 3R Initiative

1. About the 3R Initiative

The "3R Initiative" aims for the construction of a sound material-cycle society through the three "R's": "Reduce," "Reuse" and "Recycle."

This initiative was endorsed at the G8 Summit held in 2004 at Sea Island, Georgia and officially launched at the Ministerial Conference in April 2005 hosted by the Government of Japan. The concept of 3R in a sound material-cycle society is as follows:

2. Japan's Contribution

  • Assisting in capacity building of developing countries
  • Organizing an official-level meeting for the follow-up of the 3R Initiative
  • Sharing information, technologies and experiences with other countries
