Okinawa Prefecture has developed a variety of safe and high-quality agricultural and marine products that make the best of its subtropical climate as "Okinawa Brands," and is aiming to establish itself as a production base.

In order to create new industries, Okinawa is trying to develop local industries such as health food, biotechnology, and environment-related industries, while also continuing to build up its information communication industry. Moreover, in the Special Free Trade Zone, where businesses receive preferential tax treatment as the only place of its kind in Japan, Okinawa is making use of this system to attract companies from outside of the prefecture.
