Agriculture, forestry and fisheries are all prospering in Aomori, with the prefecture boasting the top production volume in Japan for food items such as apples, Chinese yams, and garlic, and with the apples, in particular, finding a healthy export market. In the agriculture, forestry and fisheries fields, Aomori endeavors to ensure the production and sale of safe, secure and high quality products, befitting its status as a one of Japan's most prominent storehouses of delicious foods.

In the industrial sector, in addition to gathering manufacturers of optical and electronic devices that possess high technological capabilities, Aomori is working hard to attract firms engaged in the flat panel display-related industry, and creating and nurturing the environment and energy industries and the medical care, health and welfare-related industries.

With the Tohoku Shinkansen Line scheduled to be extended to Aomori City in 2010, further industrial development is expected in the prefecture.
