Summary of the 1st Information and Communications Technology (IT) Mission
(The Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia - 30 October - 3 November, 2000)

1. Summary
* The 1st Information and Communications Technology (IT) Mission was a follow-up of the Comprehensive Co-operative Package to Address the International Digital Divide announced by Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori ahead of the Kyushu-Okinawa Summit 2000. Policy dialogue was conducted in order to develop specific projects.
* The mission was constituted by head of delegation, Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Bureau, Kaoru Ishikawa, and directors in charge from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC).
* The delegation visited the Republic of the Philippines, the Kingdom of Thailand and the Kingdom of Cambodia, and consulted with those responsible in these countries for drawing up policies on IT. Furthermore, they had a meeting with business people operating in each of these countries.

- Key international organizations, including the World Bank Manila office and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
- Senior members of the e-ASEAN Task Force.
(2) Thailand - 31 October to 2 November
- National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC)
- Deputy Secretary-General Somchet of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB).
- Deputy Permanent Secretary Kraisom at the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
- Key Japanese companies operating in Thailand.
- Key Thai private-sector companies, including telecommunications related companies, such as the Computer Association of Thailand (CAT), and key foreign companies, such as Oracle.
- World Bank local offices
(3) Cambodia - 2-3 November
- Prime Minister Hun Sen.
- Minister in the Council of Ministers Sok An
- Minister of Economy and Finance and Vice President of the Cambodian Development Council Keat Chhon.
