The Fifth International MANGA Award Presentation Ceremony and the Winners' Visit to Tohoku

- The Fifth International MANGA Award presentation ceremony and a reception hosted by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan were held on Friday, February 17. Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba stated, "Japan takes pride in manga, and we are happy to have many manga artists of the world participate in the International MANGA Award. We hope they will help spread the wonders of manga overseas."
- The winner of the Gold Award, JM Ken Niimura, and the Silver Awards, Cory and Tanis Werasakwong, visited Chusonji and Motsuji Temples in Hiraizumi, Iwate, which were listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2011, Shotaro Ishinomori Memorial Museum in Ishinomaki, Miyagi, Matsushima, and other places which have suffered the Great East Japan Earthquake.
- During the visit, the winners experienced not only Japan's pop- culture but also its history, nature, culture and food. They are expected to pass on their experiences in Japan when they return to their home countries.
