July 14, 2026
On July 13, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, issued a written message for the “Leaders Meeting of the Coalition of the Willing on Ukraine,” which was hosted by the Government of the French Republic.
The message content is as follows:
- I would like to express our gratitude to President Macron and the other countries for their initiatives in organizing this meeting. I also express our respect for the efforts of all countries involved toward peace.
- First of all, I would like to express our serious concern over the continuing loss of many civilian lives across Ukraine, including in the capital Kyiv, resulting from recent Russian attacks.
- As I conveyed directly to President Zelenskyy at the G7 Summit, Ukraine should continue to be supported in a manner that fully respects the Ukrainian people’s will regarding their country's future. In order to achieve a just and lasting peace, it is essential that relevant countries work together in unity and solidarity to support Ukraine, with involvement of the United States in encouraging Russia to take positive actions immediately.
- Japan also emphasizes the importance of the principled view that attempts to unilaterally change the status quo by force should not be tolerated.
- Japan will never waver in its consistent position of standing with Ukraine. Japan has been steadily providing assistance to Ukraine. Japan will also continue to promote support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia in coordination with the international community and will also continue to work on public-private partnership assistance for recovery and reconstruction in Ukraine.
