On August 25, commencing at 11:55 a.m. (3:55 p.m. on August 25, Japan time) Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during his visit to Kazakhstan, made a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Kassym-Jomart TOKAYEV, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The overview is as follows. H. E. Mr. Nurtleu, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, was also present at the courtesy call.

  1. At the outset, President Tokayev welcomed Minister IWAYA’s first visit to Kazakhstan and expressed his willingness to further strengthen relations with Japan which is a reliable partner in Asia.
  2. In response, Minister IWAYA expressed his gratitude for Kazakhstan's warm hospitality and stated that Kazakhstan is an important strategic partner for Japan in maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law, and that he hopes his visit will further develop relations between the two countries.
  3. Minister IWAYA welcomed the consistent development of economic relations between the two countries and expressed his hope for deepening cooperation toward sustainable development. In response, President Tokayev praised the cooperation with Japan thus far and expressed his expectation for further development of relations in the future.
  4. The two sides exchanged views on regional and international issues such as the situation in Russia and Ukraine as well as the situation in East Asia, including dealing with North Korea on the abductions issue, and concurred to continue close cooperation in the international arena, including the United Nations.
