On October 17th, commencing at 2:15 p.m., for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from the Honorable Phil Murphy, Governor of the State of New Jersey. An overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida welcomed Governor Murphy’s visit to Japan, and expressed his hopes that the good relationship between Japan and New Jersey, which has been built over many years through cooperation, including by Japanese companies and between municipalities, would be further strengthened. In response, Governor Murphy expressed his desire to further deepen this relationship, while also mentioning the purpose of his visit to Japan and the efforts by the New Jersey State Government to strengthen economic ties with Japan.
  2. In such exchanges, the two sides also exchanged views on Japan-U.S. relations and regional affairs. Prime Minister Kishida spoke of the importance of continued close cooperation between Japan and the U.S. to ensure peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region amid the increasingly severe international circumstances. In response, Governor Murphy expressed support for Japan's diplomatic and security efforts.
