On November 15, commencing at 3 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. MATSUNO Hirokazu, Chief Cabinet Secretary, received a courtesy call from the Honorable Gina Raimondo, Secretary of Commerce of the United States of America. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.

  1. At the beginning, Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno welcomed the first visit of Secretary Raimondo to Japan, and stated that robust bilateral economic ties are the important pillar of the Japan-U.S. Alliance and his willingness to contribute to the international peace and stability by cooperating with the United States on various economic challenges that both countries share. In response, Secretary Raimondo expressed her congratulations on his assumption of office as Chief Cabinet Secretary and stated that she is glad to visit japan for the first time. Secretary Raimondo also mentioned that it is significant that she started her visit to Asia from Japan, the most important partner for the United States.
  2. Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno also showed his intention to cooperate with the United States to enhance competitiveness and resilience of both countries, referring to “New Form of Capitalism” as well as the Japan-U.S. CoRe Partnership launched on the occasion of the bilateral Summit meeting in April. In response, Secretary Raimondo stated that the United States has a strong will to reinforce its commitment to the Indo-Pacific region by cooperating with Japan.
  3. Moreover, Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno asked for the continued understanding and cooperation of the United States on the abduction issue.
  4. They also had constructive discussion on the international order in the Indo-Pacific Region.
