Meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Aso and U.S. Vice President Pence

On September 24th, commencing at around 12:15 p.m. (local time; September 25th, around 1:15 a.m. Japan time) for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. Taro Aso, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Japan, who was visiting New York to attend the 74th United Nations General Assembly, held a meeting with The Honorable Mike Pence, Vice President of the United States of America. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Aso and Vice President Pence shared the recognition that the Japan-U.S. Alliance is stronger than ever before, including through active mutual visits between the two leaders, which was well highlighted by President Trump and Mrs. Trump’s visit to Japan in May as the first State Guests in the era of Reiwa.
- Both sides confirmed their determination to develop Japan-U.S. economic relations in a stable manner while further strengthening the Japan-U.S. Alliance in close cooperation.
- Both sides exchanged views on areas of bilateral cooperation such as space.
