On July 29, commencing at 3:30 p.m. (local time. 4:30 a.m. on July 30, Japan time.), for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Washington D.C., held a meeting with Mansfield Fellows. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
At the outset, Mr. Frank Jannuzi, President and CEO of the Mansfield Foundation, and, on behalf of all the fellows, Mr. John D. Hill, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, delivered welcoming remarks. Minister Hayashi expressed his gratitude and stated that, as the one who was involved in the establishment of the Mansfield Fellowship Program, he is pleased with the reunion with the fellows in Washington D.C. Minister Hayashi, highlighting that the two leaders concurred to expand the Mansfield Fellowship Program at the Japan-U.S. Summit Meeting in May, also stated that people-to-people exchange is the cornerstone of Japan-U.S. relations and that he intends to further develop it together, to which all the fellows expressed their strong support.
