On May 15, commencing at 7:30 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, held a Japan-U.S. Summit Telephone Talk, with the Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America.

  1. At the outset, President Trump provided a detailed explanation of the President’s latest visit to China. The two leaders exchanged views primarily on issues related to China, covering economic affairs, including economic security, as well as security affairs. The two leaders concurred to continue maintaining close communication in responding to developments in the Indo-Pacific region.
  2. The two leaders also exchanged views on the situation surrounding Iran. Prime Minister TAKAICHI reiterated Japan's basic position that it is of utmost importance to steadily achieve de-escalation of the situation as soon as possible, and the two leaders reaffirmed that Japan and the United States would continue to maintain close communication on the matter.
  3. The two leaders reaffirmed the unwavering Japan-U.S. Alliance and concurred that they would continue to work in close coordination going forward, including potentially on the occasion of the G7 Summit next month.
