On January 2nd, commencing at 9:30 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, held a Japan-U.S. Summit Telephone Talk, with the Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America. The overview is as follows:

  1. Prime Minister TAKAICHI offered her congratulations on the 250th anniversary of the founding of United States this year. Prime Minister TAKAICHI also reiterated her respect for President Trump’s diplomatic efforts to achieve peace around the world, including in Ukraine and the Middle East.
  2. The two leaders affirmed that they will make this momentous anniversary a year in which they carve out a new chapter in the history of the Japan-U.S. Alliance, and that they will further deepen the friendly relations between Japan and the United States, as well as the broad-ranging Japan-U.S. cooperation, including in economy and security.
  3. The two leaders also affirmed their commitment to steadfastly promote cooperation among like-minded partners, including Japan-U.S.-Republic of Korea (ROK) and a free and open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).
  4. Furthermore, the two leaders exchanged views mainly on the Indo-Pacific region and confirmed the close cooperation between Japan and the United States under the current international situation.
  5. President Trump extended an invitation to Prime Minister TAKAICHI to visit the United States, and the two leaders concurred to coordinate in detail to realize the visit to the United States this spring.
  6. They confirmed that they would continue to communicate closely.
