Foreign Minister IWAYA Meets with Professor Emeritus Gerald Curtis of Columbia University and Mrs. Midori Curtis

On April 27, commencing at 4:30 p.m. local time (April 28, 5:30 a.m. JST), for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting New York, U.S. to attend the Third Session of the Preparatory Committee for the Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), held a meeting with Professor Gerald Curtis, Burgess Professor Emeritus at Columbia University, and his spouse, Mrs. Midori Curtis. The overview of the meeting is as follows. Mrs. IWAYA Satoko, spouse of the Foreign Minister, was also present at the meeting.
- Minister Iwaya expressed his pleasure at meeting Professor Curtis, a leading expert on Japan studies in the United States, and Mrs. Curtis, an artist based in New York. Minister Iwaya conveyed his gratitude for their long-standing contributions and expressed his hope for continued advice on how to further develop strong Japan-U.S. relations.
- In response, Professor Curtis shared some anecdotes from when he first began Japan studies, and shared his thoughts on ways to further strengthen Japan-U.S. relations.
