On April 22, commencing at 10:10 a.m., for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary, received a courtesy call by Mr. George Glass, Ambassador-Designate of the United States. The overview is as follows:

  1. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi expressed his welcome for the arrival of Ambassador-Designate Glass, who has extensive business experience and outstanding achievements as former U.S. Ambassador to Portugal and has earned deep trust from President Trump. Ambassador-Designate stated his intention to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance and to closely collaborate to address the various challenges which Japan and the United States face.
  2. Both sides concurred on the importance of strengthening the deterrence and response capabilities of Japan-U.S, Alliance while mitigating the impact on local communities, and exchanged views on regional issues. Both sides also discussed current Japan-U.S. economic relations, including U.S. tariff measures. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi asked for continued understanding and cooperation for the immediate resolution of the abductions issue and gained full support from Ambassador-Designate Glass.
