Courtesy Call on Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi by Ambassador-Designate George Glass

On April 22, commencing at 10:10 a.m., for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary, received a courtesy call by Mr. George Glass, Ambassador-Designate of the United States. The overview is as follows:
- Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi expressed his welcome for the arrival of Ambassador-Designate Glass, who has extensive business experience and outstanding achievements as former U.S. Ambassador to Portugal and has earned deep trust from President Trump. Ambassador-Designate stated his intention to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance and to closely collaborate to address the various challenges which Japan and the United States face.
- Both sides concurred on the importance of strengthening the deterrence and response capabilities of Japan-U.S, Alliance while mitigating the impact on local communities, and exchanged views on regional issues. Both sides also discussed current Japan-U.S. economic relations, including U.S. tariff measures. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi asked for continued understanding and cooperation for the immediate resolution of the abductions issue and gained full support from Ambassador-Designate Glass.
