Meeting between Minister for Foreign Affairs Iwaya and Former Deputy Secretary Armitage

On January 20, commencing at 3:30 p.m. (local time. 5:30 a.m., Japan time.) for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Washington D.C., held a meeting with Ambassador Richard Armitage, Former Deputy Secretary of State of the United States of America. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Minister Iwaya expressed his pleasure at having the opportunity to meet with Ambassador Armitage, a strong supporter of the Japan-U.S. alliance, during his first visit to the United States as Foreign Minister. He also expressed his gratitude for Ambassador Armitage's contributions in building the foundation of the Japan-U.S. relationship.
- The two sides exchanged views on regional affairs in the Asia Pacific region. The two sides also exchanged views on coordination of like-minded countries, including Japan-Australia-India-U.S., Japan-U.S.-Republic of Korea (ROK), and Japan-U.S.-Philippines.
- Both parties exchanged views on the importance of upholding and bolstering the Japan-U.S. relations and discussed cooperation to elevate the Japan-U.S. Alliance to new heights.
