Courtesy Call on Prime Minister Kishida by Former Deputy Secretary of State Armitage

On May 22nd, commencing at 10:30 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call by Ambassador Richard Armitage, Former Deputy Secretary of State of the United States of America. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida welcomed Ambassador Armitage on his visit to Japan. Prime Minister Kishida expressed his respect for the longstanding commitment of Ambassador Armitage to strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance, including through the publication of Armitage-Nye Reports.
- Prime Minister Kishida explained the outcomes achieved during his official visit to the U.S. in April, and expressed his intention to further strengthen the cooperation between Japan and the U.S. in a variety of fields, such as diplomacy, security, economy, and space among others. In response, Ambassador Armitage offered his congratulations on the success of Prime Minister Kishida’s official visit to the U.S. and his address at a Joint Meeting of Congress.
- Both sides exchanged their views on regional issues surrounding Japan, and reaffirmed the importance of the Japan-U.S. Alliance.
