Meeting between Prime Minister Kishida and Speaker Johnson

On April 11th, commencing at 9:45 a.m. (local time, 10:45 p.m. on April 11th, Japan time) for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, during his official visit to Washington D.C., met with the Honorable Mike Johnson, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida stated that he was honored and grateful for the opportunity to address the Congress, which has a long history and tradition, and that in his speech today, he would like to convey the message in his own words that Japan and the U.S., as Global Partners, will work hand in hand to contribute to addressing various challenges facing the world.
- In response, Speaker Johnson welcomed Prime Minister Kishida’s visit to the U.S. and stated that it is an honor to invite Prime Minister Kishida for the address at a Joint Meeting of the U.S. Congress and that he hopes to contribute to further strengthening the U.S.-Japan relationship.
