On January 12th, commencing at 10:10 a.m. (local time, 0:10 a.m. on January 13th Japan time), for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Washington, D.C., the U.S. held a meeting with the Honorable Gina Raimondo, Secretary of Commerce of the United States of America. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, the ministers expressed their delight over their reunion for the first time since last November, and Secretary Raimondo extended her welcome to Minister Kamikawa’s visit to the U.S.
  2. The ministers exchanged views on possible efforts to be made based on the outcomes of the JapanU.S. Economic Policy Consultative Committee (the Economic "2+2") and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) in November last year.
  3. The ministers then concurred on the importance of Japan and the U.S. jointly playing a responsible role in the economic order of the Indo-Pacific region, while promoting trade and investment between the two countries. They also concurred to cooperate toward the upcoming Prime Minister Kishida's visit to the U.S.
