Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk
On September 4, commencing at around 9:15 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a telephone talk with the Honorable Rex Tillerson, Secretary of State of the United States of America. The overview of the talk is as follows.
1. Both sides shared the recognition that the sixth nuclear test by North Korea yesterday posed an unprecedented, grave and imminent threat to the security of the region and international community. Moreover, both sides confirmed that Japan and the United States will continue to cooperate closely, including pursuing the adoption of a stronger United Nations Security Council resolution so that the international community as a whole apply maximum pressure on North Korea,.
2. In addition, both sides reconfirmed the importance of the roles of China and Russia, and they shared the view that Japan and the United States will continue to cooperate closely, including at the United Nations.
