On June 30, commencing at around 8:10 p.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ telephone talk with the Honorable Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State of the United States.

  1. The two ministers exchanged views mainly on the situation surrounding North Korea, following the President Trump’s meeting with Chairman Kim Jong-un at Panmunjeom that day. Minister Kono received a detailed explanation of the meeting from Secretary Pompeo. The two ministers then closely coordinated their future policies toward the resolution of the abductions, nuclear and missile issues, and affirmed that Japan and the United States will continue to work together.
  2. In addition, Minister Kono expressed, once again, his gratitude for President Trump and Secretary Pompeo’s participation in and cooperation for the G20 Osaka Summit. The two ministers also confirmed that Japan and the United States will continue to work closely to address global challenges.
