Japan-U.S. Summit Telephone Talk

On August 22, commencing at around 9:30 p.m. for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone talk with the Honorable Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, upon the initiative of President Trump. The overview of the talk is as follows.
- The leaders closely aligned their policies on how to achieve the denuclearization of North Korea, including the latest interactions between the United States and North Korea.
- Prime Minister Abe explained Japan's initiatives related to the abductions issue, and the leaders shared the view that the two countries will continue to cooperate to urge North Korea to resolve the abductions issue.
- The leaders shared the view that the two countries will continue to cooperate at various levels, including between the leaders, foreign ministers, and national security councils, in order to urge North Korea to take concrete actions towards the complete implementation of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
