State Minister Sato Receives a Courtesy Call from a Former Prisoner of War, His Family and others from the United States

On October 2nd, commencing at 5:00 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, one former Prisoner of War (POW) and his family member and others, 10 people in total, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Masahisa Sato, Parliamentary State Minister for Foreign Affairs, during their visit to Japan at the invitation of the Japanese/POW Friendship Program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The overview is as follows.
- State Minister Sato welcomed the delegation and expressed his hope that the delegation’s visit to Japan would promote further “heart-to-heart reconciliation” between Japan and the United States.
- In response, Mr. Henry Chamberlain, on behalf of the delegation expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to visit Japan as a representative of the United States. He stated that he expects that this opportunity will bring about further reconciliation.
- In addition, State Minister Sato stated that we should overcome the past experience and take a future-oriented approach to the achievement of peace. The courtesy call took place in a warm atmosphere.
