State Minister Sato Receives a Courtesy Call from a POW3

On October 2nd, commencing at 5:00 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, one former Prisoner of War (POW) and his family member and others, 10 people in total, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Masahisa Sato, Parliamentary State Minister for Foreign Affairs, during their visit to Japan at the invitation of the Japanese/POW Friendship Program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The overview is as follows.

  1. State Minister Sato welcomed the delegation and expressed his hope that the delegation’s visit to Japan would promote further “heart-to-heart reconciliation” between Japan and the United States.
  2. In response, Mr. Henry Chamberlain, on behalf of the delegation expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to visit Japan as a representative of the United States. He stated that he expects that this opportunity will bring about further reconciliation.
  3. In addition, State Minister Sato stated that we should overcome the past experience and take a future-oriented approach to the achievement of peace. The courtesy call took place in a warm atmosphere.
