Japan-United States of America Relations

September 15, 2017

On September 15, commencing at shortly after 9:10 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk with the Honorable Rex W. Tillerson, Secretary of State of the United States of America. The overview of the telephone talk is as follows;

  1. The two sides shared the view that the recent launch of a ballistic missile by North Korea was a reckless action, and totally unacceptable, as it was conducted immediately after the unanimous adoption of a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution and trampled on the efforts of the international community. The two sides shared the view that Japan and the United States will apply maximum pressure on North Korea.
  2. In addition, the two sides concurred that Japan and the United States, and Japan, the United States and the Republic of Korea will work closely together to urge the involvement of China, Russia and other countries, in order to ensure the full implementation of the recently adopted UNSC resolution.
