On June 25, commencing at 9:55 a.m. local time (4:55 p.m., Japan time) for approximately 15 minutes , Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with the Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, during his visit to the Hague, the Kingdom of the Netherlands to attend the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held on the occasion of the NATO Summit.
The overview of the talk is as follows.

  1. Minister Iwaya stated that he would like to advance cooperation with Canada, an important partner in realizing a free and open Indo-Pacific.
  2. The two Ministers discussed Japan-Canada cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. Foreign Minister Iwaya welcomed Canada’s commitment to the region, referring to Canada’s initiatives to monitor illegal fishing activities in the region, as well as its monitoring and surveillance activities against illicit maritime activities including ship-to-ship transfers in waters surrounding the region.
  3. The two Ministers held discussions on a wide rage of economic issues, including the growing uncertainty in the global economy. Minister Iwaya welcomed the progress of projects involving Japanese companies, such as LNG Canada and small modular reactors, and expressed his desire to promote energy cooperation between Japan and Canada.
