On May 24, Mrs. Akie Abe, the spouse of the Prime Minister of Japan, held a meeting with Mrs.Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, spouse of the Prime Minister of Canada who was paying an official working visit to Japan. Mrs. Abe extended a welcome to Mrs. Trudeau on her first visit to Japan. Mrs. Trudeau expressed gratitude for the welcome and showed her strong interest to Mrs. Abe's energetic activities about women's issues.

Mrs. Trudeau introduced efforts by Canada to promote women's empowerment. Mrs. Abe introduced the realization of a society where women can shine and challenges that Japanese society faces. They also exchanged views on their common interests such as women's issues.

Also, Mrs. Trudeau visited Toba and Ise-Shima in addition to Tokyo during her stay in Japan and was exposed to Japanese traditional culture. It was a great opportunity to further deepening the friendship between Japan and Canada.
