On May 20, Mrs. KISHIDA Yuko, the Spouse of the Prime Minister of Japan, hosted the second day of the G7 Summit Partners’ Program in Hiroshima, visiting Itsukushima Shrine together with the spouses of the G7 Summit leaders. The spouses who joined were (1) Dr. Jill Biden, the First Lady of the United States of America, (2) Mrs. Britta Ernst, the Spouse of Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, (3) Mrs. Akshata Murty, the Spouse of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and (4) Prof. Dr. Heiko Echter von der Leyen, the Spouse of the President of the European Commission.

  1. Departing from Motoujina on the high-speed cruiser, Sea Spica, and arriving at Miyajima Port, Mrs. Kishida and the spouses of the G7 Summit leaders were welcomed by Mr. MATSUMOTO Taro, Mayor of Hatsukaichi City, and local children.
  2. Afterwards, the spouses of the G7 Summit leaders visited Itsukushima Shrine. Together with Mr. YUZAKI Hidehiko, Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture, the participants learned about the history of Itsukushima Shrine and its O-torii gate and watched a performance of the traditional Bugaku dance, Ranryo-o. The G7 Summit spouses showed great interest in Japanese history and traditional culture.
  3. Mrs. Kishida wore an outfit made of Fukuyama denim to show support for Hiroshima products on the occasion of visit to Miyajima.
