Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Nakayama received a courtesy call by Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, Chef de Cabinet of the Executive Office of the Secretary-General of the UN

On October 23, commencing at 11:45 a.m. for approximately ten minutes, Mr. NAKAYAMA Norihiro, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by H.E. Ms. Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, Chef de Cabinet of the Executive Office of the Secretary-General of the UN. The overview of the courtesy call was as follows:
- At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Nakayama welcomed Chef de Cabinet Viotti for participating in the Ceremonies of the Accession to the Throne of His Majesty the Emperor and expressed his gratitude to the statement and the letter from Secretary-General Guterres on Typhoon Hagibis. In addition, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Nakayama stated that Japan would like to continue to closely cooperate with the UN on global issues.
- Parliamentary Vice-Minister Nakayama stated that Japan supports the UN reform led by Secretary-General Guterres and referred to the importance of the Security Council reform as next year marks the 75th anniversary of the UN.
- Both sides also exchanged views on North Korea and reaffirmed the importance of full implementation of UN Security Council resolutions. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Nakayama sought understanding and cooperation on the early resolution of the abductions issue, and gained the support of Chef de Cabinet Viotti.
