Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Takagi by Hans Grundberg, Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen

On May 29, Mr. TAKAGI Kei, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Mr. Hans Grundberg, Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen, who is currently visiting Japan. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Takagi welcomed the visit of Special Envoy Grundberg to Japan, who plays a crucial role in the Yemeni issue. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Takagi stated that Japan highly appreciates the mediation efforts by Special Envoy Grundberg towards realizing peace and stability in Yemen, and stated that Japan will continue to strongly support his efforts in the peace process led by the Special Envoy and make contribution towards realizing peace in Yemen.
- In response, Special Envoy Grundberg briefed the latest situations in Yemen and expressed his appreciation for Japan's contributions to the Yemeni issue through providing necessary assistance and making diplomatic efforts, as well as its support for the efforts made by the Special Envoy. Special Envoy Grundberg also expressed his hopes that Japan will continue to play an important role in the Yemeni issue, as the G7 presidency and a member of the UN Security Council.
- Both sides confirmed that Japan and the United Nations will work more closely together towards realizing peace and stability in Yemen.
