Consultations between Special Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs HAYASHI and parties concerned to the Yemeni conflict

Mr. HAYASHI Katsuyoshi, Special Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs (former Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Yemen), visited the Sultanate of Oman from March 5 to 7, and hold consultations about the situation in Yemen with parties concerned to the Yemeni conflict, including Mr. Mohammed Abdulsalam, Spokesman for the Houthis as well as H.E. Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Issa Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Diplomatic Affairs, the Sultanate of Oman. The overview is as follows.
- During the consultations, Special Assistant HAYASHI stated that although unfortunately the truce in Yemen was expired last October, the Government of Japan welcomes the fact that the lull continues due to the efforts of the parties to the conflict and that the dialogue between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Houthis is continuing through the mediation of the Sultanate of Oman, and also The Government of Japan also highly appreciates the efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman towards renewing the truce and realizing a durabule peace in Yemen.
- Special Assistant HAYASHI expressed to the Houthis Japan’s strong hope that the parties to the conflict will make progress in the dialogue towards realizing a permanent peace in Yemen, and urged them to renew the truce and reach a political solution to realize peace and stability in Yemen.
- The Government of Japan, in cooperation with the United Nations and countries concerned, will continue to work actively to realize peace and stability in Yemen through providing necessary assistance and diplomatic efforts.
