Japan-Saudi Arabia Relations

On July 27th, Japan–Saudi Arabia Vice-Ministerial Meeting was held in Tokyo. The Japanese side was led by Mr. NAMAZU Hiroyuki, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, while the Saudi side was led by H.E. Eng. Waleed El-Khereiji, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

  1. Under the framework of the Japan–Saudi Strategic Partnership, the two sides confirmed that they would further strengthen the bilateral relations across a wide range of areas, including political affairs, security, energy, advanced technologies, and people-to-people exchanges.
  2. The two sides also exchanged views on the regional and international issues, such as the situations in the Indo-Pacific and the Middle East, including the Red Sea, and concurred that Japan and Saudi Arabia would continue to work closely together. Regarding the situation in the Middle East, the two sides shared the view on the importance of de-escalation of the situation as soon as possible and ensuring free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz without additional costs.
